Assemblages of Salsa Dancing
Both of the assemblages present
demonstrate the high energy and intricacy of Colombian salsa dancing. What
makes them different is what types of audiences they are focusing towards. The
video of salsa dancing in Colombia is more focused on the culture and how it is
performed locally. The two dancers are dancing in the middle of one of the most
popular salsa bars in the country and demonstrate what would be seen in the
classical setting of a night out in Colombia. There is no production or concern
about appealing to a particular audience, as the couple is dancing for the
enjoyment of the act of dancing as well as showcasing what traditional salsa in
Colombia would look like. The second video is of a popular group “Swing Latino”
and their performance in the Divisional Finals of the new competition “World of
Dance”. The group is Colombian, so they showcase a large part of the salsa
culture in their country, but this performance in particular is addressing that
despite their home country being Colombia, in the United States, all Latinos
join as one and are part of the same group. The dance showcased other styles of
dance, not just salsa, to help reinforce this same concept. Swing Latino was
addressing a larger, national audience, so by addressing the Hispanic community
as a whole, they win over more than just the Colombians.
When
referring to potentially harmful assemblages, there are ways you can report
them and even potentially take them down. If they aren’t on the Internet, then
you can always try to reach the author to address your concerns about the
offensive material. Fair Use allows for material to be able to use aspects of
bare repetition without violating the copyright laws, however, it allows does protect
it especially in its transformed form. Design has a large impact in how the
message of an assemblage is conveyed. The fluidity of the information is
important for easy readability and can help a message be the most ethical. The
design of the assemblage’s information could a imply a connotative or offensive
message, so it is important that the design respects the information.
