Expanding an Organization
The majority of the
groups began by figuring out the exigence for their organization. Depending on
the type of organization, different courses of action had to be taken. Some
needed to expand their social media presence while others just wanted to bring
about more awareness to their organization. Each group’s actions were
restrained by the organizations preferences as well as a lack of communication
part way through the process. This tended to affect the texts’ ability to
circulate in the way that they were intended to, but most groups still tried
their best to work around these constraints. The organizations logos and colors
were a prominent part of the materiality of the texts and gave a basis for
layout in each genre they chose to work in. I did find that all the groups did
a great job at reaching a specific audience while still staying true to the
organization’s purpose and message. The texts were innovative, yet fit right in
with each organization. Each text pushed the organizations boundaries and set a
foundation for improving them for the better. More awareness is needed for
every organization whether new or old, and I believe that every group was
successful at accomplishing more awareness. My group as well as other groups could
have accomplished a multitude of things if we had done a couple things
differently. Circulation across the board could be improved. For my group in
particular, we could have begun to circulate our online texts a bit sooner just
to network the information out to more people. In addition, we could have
followed up with the organization to see if the number of applicants increased
as a result of our texts. This could have given us a better idea as to how
successful our texts truly were. Lastly, I feel like communication could have
been improved. My group was lucky enough to have someone who had a close
relationship with the organization, but others did not and suffered as a
result. This is something that of course could not be controlled, but is
something to be more aware of if we were to continue helping organizations like
these in the future.
